My friend, Adam, is a huge fantasy fan.  For his wedding, he bought his groomsmen all swords, real swords, one of which is sitting in our closet in a location that I am sure is not considered child proof (don’t worry, it’s not sharpened and is way too heavy for either of our boys to pick up).  And I remember a few years ago when I heard he was watching this show, Game of Thrones, that I assumed was only for big fantasy nerds fans like him.  I, of course, couldn’t stand watching anything about wizards or dragons or witches because I was much too enthralled with reality tv which was clearly a much more mature form of entertainment.  But one day, I got sick, so sick that I was laid up in bed for multiple days and having watched every Housewife episode twice, I finally decided to see what exactly my good friend Adam saw in this Thrones show.   Quickly, I became OBSESSED with this make believe world and watched three seasons in three days.  And if I wasn’t watching the show, I was thinking about the show, dreaming about the show.   And now, like every GoT fan does, I count down to the next season and drink in every single episode.  I read recaps of the episodes in blogs and am even considering a Thrones themed costume this Halloween, and when I’m in a car alone, I am most certainly listening to a GoT podcast.  My inner fantasy nerd has been unleashed.

So last Saturday as I got in my car to drive to Becker Farms I was so excited to photograph Laura and Andy‘s wedding and also thrilled that I was going to have a two-hour kidless ride where I could listen to my GoT podcast uninterrupted instead of the usual Raffi Pandora station.  It wasn’t until I got to the venue and toured the reception area that I fully understood Laura’s wedding vision.  I knew she had wanted to have an enchanted love story vibe, but she did not tell me that she was going to have a whole slew of Game of Thrones details including Khal and Kahleesi signs, tables called Winterfell, vows from the actual show, and so much more.  I was snapping iPhone pics and sending them off to all my other Throne-obsessed friends.  The only thing this wedding was missing was actual dragons.  (And now Laura’s previous Facebook post where she said she was going to play “The Rains of Castamere”  during dinner–which I found both hysterical and absolutely terrifying at the same time–made much more sense.)  I adore the fact that Laura and Andy wove their love for fantasy into their wedding day.   This wedding was one of a kind and an absolute blast.

Besides the amazing theme and details, I must say that shooting Laura and Andy was a privilege and so much fun.  They are such an adorable couple and truly made for one another and I think you’ll see it’s obvious.  I started the day with both the bride, who was more beautiful and regal than any queen I’ve seen, and Andy getting ready with his very punctual and willing groomsmen at the brewery.
