Cole-Babe has Arrived!

You know when you leave your baby for the first time with someone you’re supposed to be all nervous and worry the whole time you’re away?  I feel some residual semi-guilt that that didn’t happen to me.  When Leo was just about 8 weeks old, Alex and I had a wedding to go to, and since his whole family was invited, and my family in NY, we asked our friend/little sis, Skyler, to come over.  People were shocked that I left my newborn with someone other than a “real” family member and kept asking me over and over, “Aren’t you nervous?”.   The answer, 100%, was no.  First, Auntie Sky is like a little sister to me and I knew she’d watch over Leo like he was her own–because to her, he was.  Second, the girl works with newborns at Children’s Hospital for Pete’s sake, making her the best kind of babysitter of all.  Before we left, I was going over the instructions on how to warm up milk for Leo while Skyler very politely nodded her head and listened to my every word before I realized who I was talking to.  Skyler does this for a living and here I was, basically telling her to do something I had never done in itsy bitsy details like I knew anything at all.  She gave me a slight smirk and I knew she was internally laughing at me while explained the very challenging task of how to put frozen milk in a mug of hot water to defrost it, acting like it was a more difficult than brain surgery.  And while Alex and I went off to dance the night away, Skyler spent the night snuggling with our newborn and we didn’t have to sweat it in the least knowing he was in better hands with her then he was with the two of us amateurs.

A few weeks ago, Skyler became a mama to her own baby boy, and I was able to photograph sweet baby Cole when he was just 6 days old.  I’ve known Skyler for a while now and have never, ever, seen her more in her element then she was with that little boy.  Most first time parents tend to be a little anxious when I come over for newborn shoots, not knowing how to sooth this new life that they know are supposed to take care of.  Skyler was the most calm and collected new mom I’ve ever seen.  That little baby is so lucky that he gets to be loved by her.  Sky, my heart swelled when I saw you as a mom. You are doing so great and every ounce of my is so happy for you.

I forced Gammy to take a few pictures.  Skyler knows how to be a mama because she learned from the best.  XO

Congratulations, my little Sky.  I can’t wait for Leo and Cole to play and to watch our families grow.  All my love, sweet baby Cole.
