Amber and Doug’s Crane Beach Engagement Session

You know that pit in your stomach you get on Sunday nights before you go back to work, or for teachers, the night before the first day of school starts?  I used to ALWAYS get that feeling when I had to head back to work and you’d think, that starting work after having a 4 week old would only enhance that horrible anxious feeling.   But very lucky for me, I absolutely adore my job and going to work, means dragging the whole family in the car, taking a drive to a beautiful beach on a gorgeous evening and spending an hour or two getting to know an adorable couple while your toddler builds sandcastles with your husband and waits for you to finish…orrrrr maybe he decides to throw a temper tantrum when your husband can’t take him in the water because he is also toting around a newborn and that cute little toddler decides to bury his face in the sand which then gets in his eyes causing the crying to worsen…but you are none the wiser because you’re taking pictures and “working” your tail off while strolling around the beach and having adult conversations.  (Alex, shout out to you!  Dad of the year for juggling that on your own!)

Sweet, sweet, Amber.  I need to give her the award for Most Patient Bride.  You see, we started planning this engagement session the week I came home after having Nico.  I was exhausted, still drugged up, and overwhelmed with having two babies, but for some reason, I decided that I had to schedule this engagement session ASAP and would send Amber emails at all hours of the night.  Amber never once even mentioned how my emails sounded like complete gibberish and barely made sense, but after finding out Amber was a kindergarten teacher, it all made sense.  She was used to decoding 5-year-old writing, which I’m sure mine was the equivalent to.  Luckily, my postpartum brain managed to schedule a shoot for one of the most stunning evenings this spring and saying Amber, her fiance, Doug, and I had a good time during this photoshoot is an understatement.  I just love these two.  First, they are professionals when it comes to posing and knew all the tricks of the trade.  I didn’t have to remind Doug once to keep his hand in his pocket, and he knew exactly what I meant when I said the word “nuzzle”…super rare in a groom!  Second, they were game for any crazy idea I had in mind, including taking pictures in the dunes which were clearly marked as restricted and helping me play dumb when we almost got thrown into federal prison for it.  My most sincere apologies to the duck nests we have disturbed while shooting one foot under the roped off area!  Eek!

August cannot come quick enough!
