Who’s heard of Union Square Donuts? If you’ve talked to me for more than five minutes, I most definitely brought them up to you. They are Boston’s best donuts…maybe even the best in the world. They are only open Thursdays-Sundays until they sell out, which they do in about three hours. I’ve literally waited in line for hours for them and they are totally worth every sweet fattening morsel. Why am I telling you this? Because when Sheri first called me to talk about her wedding plans, I must have talked her ear off about how good they were for at least half the phone call. I’m not sure why I thought it was necessary to do so or what in the world donuts had to do with her wedding, but the fact that Sheri STILL hired me to shoot her big day after explaining how good the maple bacon walnut donut was to her in complete detail makes me love her even more than I already would have.

Sheri and Shawn wanted to do their engagement session in the North End and happened to have a friend with an amazing roof deck that was going to let us shoot there, pretty much making them the world’s coolest clients.  We had tried to schedule this shoot a billion times this winter, but Boston had other plans and decided to dump pounds among pounds of snow on the city streets, making the background for these photos pretty gross.  Luckily we rescheduled for a warm day last week where the sun was setting giving us some gorgeous light and everything was in bloom, making the North End look prettier than I think I’ve ever seen it look.  Luck must have also been on our side as we randomly picked a night where the North End was surprisingly quiet.  I’m still not sure where everyone was, but I am happy they were not there because the streets of the North End were ours!  And although we weren’t close to any donuts, being surrounded by canolis was a pretty good second choice, and neither Sheri nor Shawn flinched when I made them run into the middle of Hanover and take a photo outside of Modern Pastry, dodging some traffic and deflecting a few middle fingers by an angry driver or two…or maybe three.  (And they also didn’t seem to think any less of me when I screamed back “GO AROUND US” at the drivers between shots…anything to get the perfect picture.)

“Ok so you want us to go stand on the grass over there right in front of the sign that says ‘Keep off the Grass’?”  said my very nice clients.  Rules…who needs ’em?
