Jessica and Vinny Get Engaged!

If you’ve read these blogs in the past you must know by now that I’ve developed a serious obsession with podcasts. If you’re a friend, I’ve probably sent you at least one suggestion for a podcast that you absolutely must listen to that I’m sure you’ve just rolled your eyes at in response and deleted. And most likely the one I’ve referred you to is the mecca of all podcasts: Making Oprah. Yup–my two obsessions, rolled into one tiny three-episoid-series and when I play on repeat, it’s like the gift that keeps on giving. As I was driving the other day and listening, the explanation of how influential Oprah’s Favorite Things was: “Remember back in the day when ugly leather moon boots were all the fad just because Oprah put Uggs on her list and everyone started wearing these horrible ugly boots?” REMEMBER WHEN???!!! I literally almost drove off the road when I looked down and at the Uggs that were still on my feet and have been since the early 2000. That makes me old. And out of style. (But hey, at least my toes are warm.) So I’m trying to phase mine out and if anyone has any suggestion on a comfortable and warm shoe that I can wear that doesn’t scream “I’m living in the past” and can be worn with my daily yoga pants uniform, please share!! So far, I’ve got nothing. Uggs for life!

And speaking of old…nothing makes you feel more ancient than when you realize that one of your “little cousins” is an adult and does grown up things like getting ENGAGED! But I am thrilled for her and her new fiance and cannot wait for another family wedding because there is no single group of people I have more fun with than my cousins. And I’m stoked to finally be able to call her fiance, “my cousin, Vinny” because as big as my Italian family is, we’ve been lacking one! Vinny and I connected a few days before New Years on his way up to Boston with Jessica and devised a plan for me to capture his proposal to Jessica.  He was so sweet and so laid back, and in his own words, he just couldn’t wait to see her face light up with excitement.  And that it did.  Jessica was shocked and thrilled when Vinny got down on one knee at the Boston Public Library and asked her to spend the rest of his life with him…and by rest of her life, I hope he realized that that also means the rest of his life with US because our family comes in bulk; for better or for worse!

My “little Jessica” is such a special cousin/friend and I am so happy I was able to be there for her big moment.  She is creative and kind and super helpful and funny and fun and so much more and I know her and Vinny are going to create a day so special celebrating their love and I just cannot wait.

Thank you so much for letting me be part of your engagement story…

Vinny is one of a kind too–who else would be up for a impromptu shoot after popping the question? He wins.  Maybe he’ll even get a seat at the adult table at Easter for that…
