Emma’s First Birthday with a Side of Sophia! | Boston Family Photographer

My first post since being back from NY!  Woohoo.  Canandaigua, as always, you were beautiful this summer.  We had a little bit of a “ruff” trip back to Boston that I’d like to blame on my dog, Sauce.  That guy is really putting a damper on my solo-trips recently as he’s decided to bark at the most inopportune times and wake up sleeping babies from their naps in the car while I’m driving alone on a 6 hour trip. Not that I’m holding it against him or anything…

My first day back to Boston started with a bang and I had two awesome photo shoots.  First up was a family I hold so dear in my heart and I cannot tell you how much I love that they’ve let me into their lives for so long and for all their special moments–like little Emma’s first birthday!  Nicole emailed me a few months ago trying to nail down a date and said she was game for any idea I had as far as location.  Since big sis, Sophia’s session at SWEET was one of my favorites, I felt pressure to find something equally as unique for Miss Emma.  But the only thing my mind could come up with was the carousel on the Greenway.  I figured the city would be too much of a trek for this fam of four and threw out the idea figuring it’d be quickly dismissed, however, I was happily wrong.  Apparently Nicole, Jim, and Sophie spent their last day as a family of three at the carousel the night before Emma was born, so the location felt serendipitous.  Not only did we get to catch up, but I got to practice my balancing skills while trying to shoot backwards while the carousel was moving, all while looking at the smiling faces of two of the sweetest sisters.  If you know them at all, you know that I am not hastily giving them that title either.

And can I just mention again how much I love spending time with this family?  They just exude this feeling of calm, even when they are carting two kids into downtown Boston on a weekday morning.  And the best part is, they are so humble they don’t even know how lovely they actually are.

A family I look up to and admire, for sure.  Let’s start with big, sis, Sophia.  My very first newborn.

I forgot the carousel isn’t full of horses, but wild animals.  Emma thought her fox looked like her doggy.

Nicole and Jim, I’m so glad I got to freeze time for you, even for a brief moment.  You guys make my heart full.
