So we get this call from Nico’s teacher earlier this year. She just wanted to inform us as to what our little nugget was saying about us at school. Apparently, he told his teachers that his daddy is the only one allowed to drive because his daddy drives straight and his mommy drives crooked. Was it true? Yes. Was I mortified? Only slightly. You see, the kid wasn’t wrong, although I would much prefer that my 2 year old not broadcast it to his classroom. Driving is not necessarily my forte. Sure, I get myself from one place to another but it’s not always with the assertive nature that one needs to master the roads of the Ma$shole drivers here in the great bay state. Actually, I usually think I’m driving pretty well until I look in my rearview mirror and see a look of horror and frustration on the driver behind me, or after a car speeds past me and gives me the bird for doing—who knows what? So when my suuuuuper thoughtful clients saved me a spot in the South End for their shoot and I rolled down my window to confirm the exact spot to Dave, who was directing me and he yelled back, “how good are you at parallel parking?” panic set in because if there’s one thing I do not want my clients judging me on, it’s my driving. Great intro, right? I’m Janelle, you hired me to take photos of this super magical time in your life but I just hit two cars while parking on my way into your home and now have to call my insurance company…nice to meet ya. And then, the only thing to scare me more than having Dave watch me park was the very nice question that proceeded, “If you can’t do it, I can do it for you.” Any mom with two small kids knows the horror that arises with that question—someone wants to come in my car? My car with mashed up goldfish on the floor and left over coffee cups laying around. No way jose, I’d much rather risk hitting ten parked cars then have a new father with a week old baby who does not yet know the challenges of keeping McDonald’s french fries off the floor of your car try to drive my gigantic SUV with The Wiggles playing on the stereo. But how sweet was he to ask. So after only one try I managed to squish my car in the spot with only half of the car hanging on the road while I internally yelled at myself for not taking Alex’s CLEAN little car to work that day. And this was my first impression on this new family. Swell, huh?

Fast forward to three minutes later after my blood pressure slowed to a somewhat normal rate, I entered Shir and Dave’s gorgeous South End condo, met Shir’s sweet sister and her 3 month old baby boy, and wrapped my arms around teeny tiny Vivi who was so incredibly scrumptious I could have ate her up in one big bite. Little Vivi has some pretty stinking gorgeous genes and is so lucky to have been born into such a cool condo surrounded by her family. Shir’s sisters and parents all live within a few blocks from her—which is basically my dream situation—and Dave’s family is super close too, making this little peanut the luckiest. Ever. And at two weeks old her wardrobe is totally fabulous, turbans and all. I completely overstayed my welcome during this shoot because I’m obsessed with these people. And I hope to see this family again so soon and wherever that may be, I plan to arrive extremely early so no one has to see me park!

Vivi-girl, take it away…
