The von Trapp Family

Ok.  I lied. I didn’t travel to Austria for this photo shoot and this clearly isn’t the curtain-wearing, goat-puppeteering von Trapp family. But I would challenge any of you to find a more musical family than my cousin, his beautiful wife, and their two adorable children on this side of the Atlantic.

Anyone that has been to a Colosi family wedding will recognize my cousin, Robert, as the guy, who, perhaps two rum-and-Cokes in, completely kills it on the microphone after dinner. Robert loves to sing. Anytime, anywhere. One of my all-time favorite memories is when he decided to sing at my grandmother’s nursing home. While Robert was giving his best Harry Connick Jr. rendition, the patients (who may or may not have been fully with it) started yelling out, very loudly, “Can’t someone shut him up?!” and, “This is the worst day of my life.” While my family was hysterical in the back, Robert didn’t miss a beat. He kept happily singing his little heart out as if he were performing for thousands at Carnegie Hall.

And Robert couldn’t have met a better match than his wife, Carrie. A Boston Conservatory graduate turned music teacher, Carrie, along with her hubby, will not hesitate to bust out in two-part harmony at any moment, complete with choreography. Yes, these two can magically transform any old activity–cooking, buying groceries, pumping gas–into a musical theater production. So it’s no wonder their children aren’t afraid of the limelight. Little Kayleigh will sing “Tomorrow” on demand, and while Ryan will pretend to be shy and quiet, I know he is just saving his vocal chords for his turn on stage.

It was so fun to spend time with them at the very crowded Public Garden last weekend.  We laughed, we played, and we of course, sang.  If only this blog played music…

The ducks were also a big hit that day. 2013-11-12_0010.jpg 2013-11-12_0009.jpgI love Ryan’s little eye popping out from behind. He was putting on his “I’m shy” act.

Can’t you just picture them prancing in the rolling Austrian hills singing “Doe, a deer, a female deer…”?
