So Alex and I had the most amazing weekend getaway over Columbus Day.  We had found this awesome little B&B right in downtown Burlington, VT that was dog friendly, and looked super funky and fun and had great reviews.  But shockingly, we weren’t the only ones that had an idea to go north over a long weekend during the height of leaf peeping season, and the hotel was booked.  After a few phone calls and buttering up the owner, the nice lady on the end of the phone told us that if we called back the Thursday before, they would most definitely have a room open and hold it for us.  So we waited until Thursday night, and I got my little credit card out to reserve the room and I gleefully gave a call thinking I was so cool for figuring out a way to make the impossible, possible.  But sadly, the woman’s prediction was wrong and there were no cancellations.  Actually, the owner acted like we had never spoken before and told me there was no way a room would ever open-which was all very confusing and left us completely stuck with no place to go.  I was ready to call it quits, but Alex stayed up until all hours of the night scouring VRBO and contacting owners until we finally found a little cabin rental near Stowe, VT.  We figured that since it wasn’t booked, it must be a terrible shack in the middle of no where and were crossing our finger it had running water. We drove up on Saturday and found our little home away sitting on the most perfect farm on an old dirt road.  The house was nestled by a gorgeous wooden barn, in front of a babbling brook (where Sauce almost drown at least six times over the weekend), and between apple trees that were there for the picking.  I felt like we had walked into a storybook.  And the inside of the house did not disappoint.  It was clearly built a long time ago, (I won’t even try to guess when) but they had updated it with all these high end modern amenities without taking away from the old world charm.  And the best part was there was no cell service within ten miles–which sent me into an immediate panic, but turned out to be so, so nice.  We spent the entire weekend walking the property, taking naps, and watching old movies on VHS that had been left at the house.  I am sure the B&B would have been lovely, but having a weekend to just unwind was therapeutic.  If you’re looking for a relaxing weekend away, contact me and I’ll give you the owner’s information.  But you can’t go on Columbus Day weekend, because we plan to make this a yearly tradition.  🙂

I capped off the holiday weekend with Josh and Steve’s engagement shoot on a gorgeous night in Beacon Hill, which pretty made it the best weekend ever.  The city was so quiet Monday and I made it downtown in five minutes flat and found a parking spot right away, which is unheard of.  We spent the night gabbing about wedding plans and strolling the streets.  I love Josh and Steve and feel so honored to be shooting their wedding in June.  They are so fun and so in love.  And they didn’t even judge me when my Sasha Fierce came out at one point in the night when a couple of paparazzi were trying to get pictures over my shoulder (which I totally don’t mind, as long as you don’t keep walking behind the people I’m trying to shoot and in my frame!)  And they are complete naturals in front of the camera.  I barely had to direct them.  I just stood around and let them do their thing and snapped a few pictures along the way.  I feel like I could hide out in the bushes and get sneaky pictures of them without them knowing and they’d always look this adorable and this much in love.  (Thank you guys for making my job a cinch!)  I cannot wait to see how all of their wedding plans unfold.  I’m certain it’s going to be a day surrounded by so much love. And I love love.

Aren’t they adorable?

I wish someone had taken a picture of me right here.  There were literally twenty onlookers on Acorn Street that night watching us get these photos, some who just started snapping shots of Josh and Steve with their own cameras.  I can’t really blame them–these guys look good!
