Amber and Doug’s Salem Cross Inn Wedding

If you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t, this is a shameless plug that you should), you know that on Sunday, I flew home to NY carting all my camera gear and both babies all alone.  Some told me I was crazy. Some told me I was brave. The truth is, I was desperate.  Desperate for some extended sleep and desperate for some time to edit in more than two hour increments during the boys nap time.  I had Amber and Doug’s pictures burning a hole in my pocket and I NEEDED to get home so I could hand off the babies and sit in editing bliss while I went through each and every picture.  But before I booked my ticket I teetered back and forth about purchasing tickets with one stop through NYC or paying double to fly direct.  If you know me at all, you know I cannot stand paying full price for anything, but seeing as it was Nico’s first flight and Leo could probably win an Olympic gold medal in darting out of my sight in .2 seconds flat AND the fact that I had to carry all my camera and computer equipment on my back, I decided to splurge.  And THANK GOD that I did.  When we watched the news Monday morning we learned that there were gunshots in JFK and the entire airport was evacuated for 3 hours.  I honestly do not know what I would have done if I was there and I am so so so thankful that for whatever reason we made it home without much excitement (besides of course the excitement Leo displayed as he yelled “Leo drive” for the entire flight.)  And if you’re curious as to how the flight went, I’d tell you it was AOK…although the other passengers might have different opinions.    It was just an example of how I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and that someone up there was watching out for me.

And I’m sure that Amber and Doug feel me when I say certain things happen in life for a purpose because their meeting is one that lead them to this day right here: the day where they said “I do” at a beautiful venue surrounded by the ones they love most.  The forecast for the day called for rain and most of the morning was spent deciding if the ceremony would be inside or out until a decision was made 5 minutes before starting to keep everything indoors–and good call on the bride’s part as a loud roar of thunder boomed right as the celebrant told guests to “speak now or forever hold their peace”.  We managed to squeeze some outdoor pictures in between rain showers and even though the air was as heavy as I’ve ever felt, there were no complaints from Amber or Doug.  They were just happy to finally become man and wife and I still get chills thinking about the love they shared that day.  If you don’t believe me, the tears Doug had in his eyes the entire day should make it clear.
