So here’s the thing. I have one sister, which made me feel very comfortable in knowing I’d always be her favorite. I knew I could never win the “favorite sibling” award seeing as my brother and her have always shared some kind of secret bond over being closer in age and knowing more random trivia than one hundred average humans put together. But by default, I knew I had “favorite sister” thing in the bag…that was until my sister had to go ahead and start racking up all these really awesome sister-in-laws. First came my brother’s wife, who happens to be one of the nicest humans in the world and a really great gift giver, unlike myself who forgets to send cards and barely remembers birthdays until the day is almost over. And then, my sister found a fiance who happens to have two amazing sisters who do things like throw her the world’s most adorable and personal bridal showers in the world, on top of being super fun and supportive, making my stock as favorite sister plummet even lower. Thankfully for me, these new sister-in-laws of hers don’t have blogs to share their adorable showers with you, and I can pretend like the shower my mom and I put together for my sister was the only one that ever happened.
We had so much fun planning this shower for Rosanne. It took place at the new patio at Canandaigua Inn on the Lake on a beautiful, but extremely humid day. My mom designed and created the invitations and pinwheels, which we used as escort cards. Love them!
We bought the flowers from my Amish neighbors. Aren’t they gorgeous? We found this little house on a dirt road a couple miles from my parents house where this Amish woman grows her own flowers and bunches them together and sells them on the side of the road. When you pull up, all her little adorable Amish children come running out in their bonnets to greet you. It’s straight out of a story book, and I only wish that I could document the adorableness for you, but if you’ve watched even a minute of Breaking Amish on TLC, you know cameras are a big no-no.
Scented soaps…I stole at least three.
We put the pinwheels in my grandparents antique picnic basket that they used to take to Hyde Park for picnics every Sunday back in the day.
And we found my grandmother’s “Brides Scrapbook” that her bridesmaids made for her when she got married. They cut out comics and pictures from newspapers and magazines and predicted what my grandmother’s life would be like after she got married. I’m not sure if that was something that all bridal parties did back in 1938, or if she just happened to have a crafty and creative group of bridesmaids, but it is hysterical to look at now!
We also decorated the tables with my grandmother’s old hobnail vases, which my sister and I will probably spend the better part of the rest of our lives fighting over who gets to keep what piece of hobnail…something she doesn’t have to worry about with her sister-in-laws and another reason why my “favorite sister” title is getting farther and farther away. (But seriously, Ro, the sugar and creamer are MINE!)
Thank you, JCrew, for creating necklaces to match the color scheme!
Soon-to-be Mr. & Mrs.! 13 days away…not that I’m counting!
RoRo, I love you forever! So happy to celebrate with someone who deserves all the happiness in the world!
When we were little, we voluntarily shared a room and bed together. At night, my sister used to read aloud to me, and one of our favorite authors was Roald Dahl.
“Mr. Wonka: Don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he wanted.
Charlie Bucket: What happened?
Mr. Wonka: He lived happily ever after.”
Congratulations on your happily ever after.
