When Leo was a baby, he was, what some might call, chunky, if we’re putting it lightly. And he and I used to attend baby class where me, the highly emotional new mom, used to cry to the group about how people would always refer to him as fat. But here’s the thing. I LOVE chunky babies. I was one myself, and so was Alex. And the two of us weren’t just chunky, we were some of the biggest babies you ever laid eyes on. And I always wanted a big baby…but for some reason, it bothered me immensely that people called him “fat”. Now most of the moms in the group couldn’t feel my pain, but my friend, Melissa, she got it. Mason was only about half the size of Leo, but he had some of the most delicious cheeks ever so she used to politely nod and agree with me and remind me that I wasn’t alone in the chubby-but-ridiculously-adorable-mom-club…which is really just what every new mom wants, right? Her chunky-baby-solidarity really got me through some irrational breakdowns that I had. But fast forward a few years later, and neither Mason or Leo have any chunk on them. It’s so funny how things change so quickly!

Another change is that Melissa and Mason moved out of the city and into the ‘burbs and with daddy, Matt, welcomed sweet little brother, Jack, into the mix. They invited me into their gorgeous, humungus house this past weekend for an early morning family session where I drooled over the amount of space they now have. We spent a few hours together playing together before taking a little walk to the pond near their house. I love when sessions focus on the everyday and where I get to document a “normal” Sunday morning…or as normal as it can get when a crazy person is photographing your every move.
