Liam and Cullen’s Ice Cream Sunday

I have a little story that I think my girl, Katie, Liam and Cullen‘s mama, can feel me on.  I was in NY on one of the blistering hot days we had in July and took a walk with Leo to a friend’s house.  Like a good mama, I brought the stroller with me and pictured Leo peacefully riding with the cold ice water I packed.  But did the kid want to ride?  No.  Leo decided he wanted to walk the entire mile, which is totally fine, except for the fact that it was a billion degrees and he wanted to stop to explore every single thing he saw.  It was worse than walking with Sauce when he finds a scent and won’t leave a particular spot because at least I can throw a leash on the dog and drag him behind me.  But not Leo.  No stroller and no carrying.  He wanted to walk sooooo sloooooooowwwwllly.  So to help him pick up the pace I taught him to do the invisible horn pull (do you know what I’m talking about?  I tried to find the specific word on Google for whatever that’s called but no such luck) to get the 18 wheeler trucks to beep at him, and when they did, ohhh my goodness, Leo’s face lit up like he was at Disney World.

No matter how much we try to sway Leo to other things, he always comes back to trucks and trains and planes.  Mommy-goddess, Katie, knows this all too well and pulled out “surprise” airplanes for her boys during our photoshoot last Sunday and totally saved the day.  The wide eyes that Liam and Cullen had when they saw their planes was the same Leo had when those trucks beeped at us on our walk and I loooooove that I can learn all these boy-mommy secrets from Katie.  When I first met Katie and Andrew, it was for a mother’s day photo session when little Liam turned one and I absolutely love that we’ve become friends and added Cullen and Nico to our mix and I can get all my mommy questions answered by her!

I wanted to do something fun and special to capture Katie, Andrew, Liam and Cullen.  As a photographer I am constantly looking for new and different places to shoot, but for every 10 places I find to photograph little girls, there’s 1 that will work for little boys–it’s such a challenge to find the right spot.  But when Katie posted a picture of Cullen eating ice cream this summer on Instagram with it melting down his little chubby cheeks, I just knew we needed to capture that.  Luckily Katie new of a gorgeous field right next to a delicious ice cream stand and met me last Sunday looking as stunning as ever.   And Andrew–I don’t think I write enough about him in my blogs.  He is such a good daddy.  He got a work out swinging the boys back and forth for hourssss and the boys just love him.  It is so sweet to watch.

I love this shot of Cullen. I feel like he’s nonverbally telling me what to do “And you, crazy lady, need to stand over there.”

Cullen is so squishy!  I just can’t get enough of this kid.

2016-08-17_0042Katie and Andrew–there is never enough time to catch up completely.  Let’s get together and throw a pile of trucks in front of the boys, drink wine, and hang (I’ll leave muddy Sauce at home this time!).  Good luck in the new house!
