Casey & Joe | Washington DC Engagment Session | Destination Photographer

How have I not shared this one yet?

On the list of things I never even dreamed would happen to me, a destination engagement session in DC was definitely on that list. Joe and Casey found me this summer and asked me to shoot their wedding. Initially, they had said they didn’t want to do an engagement session, but after some thought, circled back and told me they were in. (If any couples are reading this, my thought on an engagement session is always, always, ALWAYS, do it. Even if you think you don’t need it. Even if you have pictures from your proposal. Even if you think you won’t do a single thing with the photos—which you will. DO IT. It’s like a dress rehearsal for your big day. If you were an actress, you’d never think of going on stage without practicing first. An engagement session gives you a chance to know what to expect and get to know your photographer. In this instance, Joe and Casey got to know me REALLY well because we spent the entire day together.) And not only were they in, they wanted to do the session in their current hometown of DC and hesitantly invited me down. I use the word hesitant because I think they didn’t think a mom-of-two could get it together enough to make the trip. But little did they know that I would do anything, ANYTHING, to have a hotel room to myself. So I organized about 75 babysitters, packed lunches days in advance, laid out all the clothes, and peaced-the-heck outta Boston to meet these two. And it was worth every organizational hiccup because I had the most amazing time.

Although I was only in DC for less than 24 hours, I felt like I got to see all the sights as Joe, Casey and I toured around and got some amazing photos. And if the purpose of an engagement session is to get comfortable with your photographer (and vice versa) it’s safe to say that we’ve checked all the boxes. These two got to know me better than they wanted to. And I’m so grateful to them for showing me an amazing time in their beautiful city.

Here’s some of the fun we had. How beautiful do you think these guys will be on their wedding day?
