Baby Hannah is Here!

So it’s 4:26 am and I’ve resorted to using this time to blog. Why you ask? Well, my precious little peanut who is snoozing by me right now, will probably decide to start screaming his little head off inconsolably in about 20 minutes. This guy might look little and helpless, but he has developed this insane ability to crawl his little immobile self over to my planner, look up days I have scheduled photoshoots, and wake up, bright eyed and bushy tailed, three hours earlier than he usually sleeps. Why he decides to torture his poor, exhausted mama is beyond me.

Leo’s little “sabotage my sleep” plan has happened without fail for every shoot I’ve had in 2015, including the day I met little Hannah. It was one of those mornings where I just needed a few more precious minutes of sleep, but little Leo had other things in mind, so we got up extremely early to…I’m not sure what…watch the sunrise? Watch the morning paper be delivered? Watch Alex sleep for more than three consecutive hours in a row? Despite my little one’s attack, I managed somehow, to get my exhausted self ready early. But of course, the little guy decided to be all cute and cuddly right before I left so I had to snap a picture of him on my phone. And just my random luck, I pull out my cell phone to get him cuddling in his daddy’s arm, and the screen decided to turn completely black. And just to taunt me, I could hear the beep of text messages and phone calls coming in, but I couldn’t see or answer any of them. Now, being without a phone for a few hours is not a big deal…except it IS a big deal! My phone is like my lifeline. After having a mini-meltdown, I grabbed my camera bag and broken-good-for-nothing-phone and dashed out the door, remembering I had to drive my husband’s car that day, which is normally fine when I have my phone, but because of an accident (a 90 year old woman rolled her car into his–while I was driving it—at about 5 miles an hour) that has caused his car to display a “headlamp error” message over the GPS and clock display, leaving both useless. So without my phone, I had no idea where I was going and what time it was. I felt like someone had thrown a bag over my head and told me to walk a tight rope! Of course, after this horrible, terrible, very bad morning it was necessary that I had some caffeine and I guesstimated that I had enough time to grab a cup, which I did. But the baristas at Starbucks must have been in on Leo’s little sabotage game because I swear they gave me a cup with a rubber lid. Back in Alex’s car (I should mention, Alex LOVES his car. If he had to choose between Leo or his car, he’d choose Leo. But if he had to choose between myself and his car…well, you can guess what the answer would be) the lid of that cup was flopping all over the place as coffee was splashing all over the car, my coat, my scarf and my legs. Perfect.

But exactly five minutes early, I pulled up to little Hannah’s house, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door. Big sis, Paige, and her dad, Matt, opened up the door and after greeting them, I profusely apologized for smelling like coffee and creamer. Matt was nice enough to pretend like he didn’t notice and lucky for me, Paige didn’t care. We started the morning out with some tea served by Miss Paige, while we waited for her baby sis to get ready. (This tea I managed not to spill all over me. Make-believe-beverages really are the way to go!)

And when she was ready for her debut, Paige proudly introduced me to little Miss Hannah Jo:

You are going to remember these faces from our summer shoot on the Cape. Little Hannah was still cooking for those pictures, but she finally decided to make her way into the world!  And a lucky little baby to be part of such a special family!

Meaghan and Matt are just the nicest. I could have stayed at their house all day…ohhh wait, I did!

The picture on the right is what happens when you tell a two year old to look at her baby sister. Head down, eyes wide open…totally natural!

Matt is such a sweet dad. His girls adore him and he wasn’t even phased by being surrounded by so much pink.
