When I was little, my grandmother would knock and the door and when you’d ask who was there, she’d respond by saying, “A horse of a different color” (a quote from The Wizard of Oz if you couldn’t place it).  I used to think it was hilarious and would try to integrate the expression into my vocabulary, most of the times, unsuccessfully but thinking I was so cool for copying someone I admired so much.

But today on the blog, I really do have a horse of a different color to share…a senior session complete with, well, a horse!  This blog is usually flooded with newborns and couples and families, but I don’t get to shoot that many seniors, which makes me sad because I love working with them.  First, they fill me in on all the cool lingo the kids are saying (which I obviously don’t know seeing as I just referred to them as “kids” making me insanely old.)  Second, these seniors know how to work a camera, thanks to Snapchat (see, Abby filled me in and told me Facebook and Instagram are sooooo yesterday.  Snapchat is where it’s at. Obviously.) And third, this age group can take direction and stand still and I don’t have to try to sing the lyrics to The Wheels on the Bus while trying to get the right exposure.  OF COURSE I love my kiddos and couples, but sometimes, it’s nice to change it up a bit.

Meet Abby!  A darling about-to-be-senior who is not only beautiful and fun, but also an accomplished horse back rider, so getting some shots with her girl, Chloe, was a must.  And although Chloe tried to make the shoot a challenge for me, Abby worked the camera so well I had no problem getting some beautiful shots of these two ladies, making this one of my most favorite sessions.  Add a beautiful summer night, Plum Island for some post-horse-photos and throw in some of the most gorgeous florals designed by Abby’s mama, the talented and lovely, Laura Thomson Designs (who you absolutely must check out), and this night was pretty much perfect.
