If you asked my friends at home what my best quality is, they’d probably say my strong appreciation for Upstate New York…and if you’d ask my friends from Boston what my worst quality is, they’d probably say, my obnoxious appreciation for Upstate New York. It’s true that I will argue until my face turns blue that Canandaigua is the best place on earth. Tell me the winters are bad? I’ll find reason to explain that it’s only about 5 degrees on average colder than Boston. Tell me there’s nothing to do there? I’ll gladly highlight wine tours, lake living, and the small town charm. But there is one thing that I will give to New England, (which I’ll probably only admit to this one time) and that’s the fall. Although both places have beautiful foliage, there’s something about seeing the colorful fall leaves on the cobblestone sidewalks and the quintessential New England farms at every turn that make me feel like I’m walking through a storybook.

Last weekend we took advantage of the season and went apple picking with our good friends Nick & Jeanine. Nick and I met in 2nd grade when he stole my solo in a musical production group we were both part of. Seven years later, when I finally got over my grudge, we became best friends and I’m thrilled that he also lives in Boston. Nick happened to marry Jeanine, who I predict will someday be my future best friend because we both have similar interests (including dragging our husbands places they have no interest going). To top it off, my BFFs went ahead and had the most adorable, well behaved, little man, Adrian, who I absolutely adore. While Jeanine and I took picking our pecks of apples very seriously, the guys lagged behind us hiding our purses in the trees, playing apple bocce with the rotted apples, and gorging themselves in apple cider donuts. Really…some things haven’t changed since 2nd grade…

How adorable is little Adrian? He loved the apples almost as much as I loved him!
